Facet Joint Blocks

Degenerative Diseases, such as Arthritis, can often lead to back pain. In these cases, the pain can be relieved with Facet Joint Blocks.

During a facet joint block, medication is injected into both sides of the vertebrae on the spine. The procedure may be done as a treatment method or to properly diagnose where pain is originating.

Prior to the procedure, Dr Alison Richardson will meet with the patient to discuss the procedure and issue instructions. It is important that these instructions are properly followed to ensure the safety of the patient and the success of the procedure.

On the day of the procedure, the patient will be taken to an x-ray room where the Facet Joint Blocks are done. Using an x-ray to guide her, Dr Alison Richardson will inject the Facet Joint Blocks into the back. Once the blocks have been placed, the back is cleaned and the patient is bandaged.

Many individuals feel immediate relief because of the local anesthetic. It is important to keep track of how you feel after the procedure and how those feelings progress as time goes on./
